However, we did the first non vip slot and the car park was already really busy on arrival and when we came out, it was chaos on the parking front with cars parked all along the entrance and exit roads. The exhibition itself isn't as good as the chinese dinosaur exhibition, its a very small exhibition and not much of the original animal is there, so you are paying basically to see a replica T.Rex! There are no notices on the machines telling you where to pay!! Then if you want something to eat there is nowhere to sit and eat it, so the elderly then suffer again by having no where to sit!! There are lots of steps and slopes so don't recommend it for people with mobility problems. Most people without smart phones are elderly and cannot walk too far so all this walking backwards and forwards is very tiring. If you are elderly and don't own a phone then you have to walk up to the shop and pay but then have to walk back to put a sign in your car window, then walk back again. Went to the Titus exhibition on the 5th July and if you don't own a smart phone/iPhone you cannot pay for the car park. The music was once again excellent but the overall experience was very disappointing. The food area was much better in its original position instead of being placed in the courtyard. I expected that this was either because they were now very slick and didn't need to spend as much time putting the decorations up or because they were cutting back. My early suspicions were raised by the fact that work on the trail seemed to begin much later than usual. It really did appear that Nottingham City Council had faced drastic cutbacks and instead of using artists to design the trail they just went for a cheaper option. There were large areas with very little all of the wonderful illuminated animals had gone and the house projection was extremely dull.and even used a snowflake projector, the kind you can buy from Asda to illuminate the outside of your house. There was only one impressive exhibit and the rest seemed to be just strings of lights or dead space. There were probably 50% fewer lights and the trail was definitely shorter (not longer as had previously been advertised). What happened then with 2022? I actually persuaded others from Derby to join us and I was embarrassed by the display, particularly after I had made such a fuss of it. I think that artists were contracted for each of the exhibits, and they came together to create something magical. Brilliant!Ģ021 was even better, with lights at every turn - genuine artistry and skill was on display and the animated projection onto the house was superbly synced with the freestanding tree structure. The first year I was very surprised by how good the event was - incredible really, as this was the first time Wollaton had put on such an event. This was the 3rd year for the Christmas trail. This is a review for the Christmas Lights Trail and not a review of the hall and grounds which are beautiful. In my opinion all car parks ought to retain the option to pay by card or cash. Anyone without a smartphone who tried to park would be defeated. Fortunately my son in law who was with us has the app and he was able to add my car to it and pay.

I don't have the Ringo app (my only other option) and the 4g signal wasn't good enough to download it. So we tried phoning the number and had to give car reg, make and colour but these weren't accepted because I thought my car was gold but officially it's beige. However there was no card reader or ticket dispenser visible. One option on the signage is to pay by card and display the ticket on the windscreen. My second criticism is the confusion when you go to pay for parking.

If they'd kept the museum free and had the dinosaur in a separate room it would have been better. It would have cost our whole party about £50 to go in so we sadly declined. But at the moment they have a T Rex skeleton for which they charge, and you can't just go into the free part without seeing the dinosaur. First of all, I wanted to take the children to see the stuffed animals in the hall as I remember enjoying that experience as a child myself. They enjoyed the play equipment which has been much improved since my children were small (not to mention that the adventure playground in the 1970s wouldn't have passed Health and Safety today!). I grew up in Wollaton and took my grandchildren to the park for the first time today.
